Woyzeck

Set design and costumes for play / Aalborg Theatre, winter 2009-10 / Text by Georg Büchner
Direction by Hans Henriksen / Light design: Anders Kjems

The ensemble, who were on stage the whole duration of the piece, watched Woyzeck's every move in the diffuse and constant light from the 90 tubelights in the low ceiling. The set represented many locations, but nothing, not even a light or sound cue, was done to separate them: Marie has her affair right next to Woyzeck, but he never sees it.
When Woyzeck ends his rape of Marie's dead body, accompanied by Radiohead's 'Exit Music' played live on stage, the only light cue of the entire peformance was executed: The stage went dark, and the ensemble was left in silhouet. Woyzeck leaves the room through a hole in the wall, and after his voice has slowly vanished from distance, the Captain ends the performance with his monologue in the dark.

Gregers Dirckinck-Holmfeld ★★★★★

Kultunaut, Martin Munkholt Andersen ★★★★★

JP, John Christiansen ★★★★
